Assistant Vice President and Regulatory Counsel

Summary

The Assistant Vice President and Regulatory Counsel supports ICBA’s advocacy efforts by representing the association and advocating its policy positions before the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and other regulatory agencies and policy makers regarding federal consumer financial rules.     

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Stay abreast of legal, regulatory, legislative, operational, and market developments in areas of responsibility
  • Analyze regulatory proposals and policies to identify potential impact on community banks and develops applicable strategies to advance the interests of community banks
  • Represent and communicate ICBA’s positions in industry forums
  • Provide subject matter and technical expertise internally and externally
  • Solicit input from ICBA members to formulate ICBA positions and may serve as staff liaison to ICBA subcommittees, councils, task forces and work groups
  • Prepare comment letters and other advocacy letters and documents, summaries of proposed and final rules and other member resources
  • Analyze litigation to determine impact on community banks and coordinates ICBA participation
  • Coordinate and collaborate with like-minded organizations to strengthen advocacy efforts
  • Respond to banker inquiries
  • Speak at ICBA and industry conferences
  • Write articles for ICBA and industry publications

Qualifications

  • Law degree required
  • At least five years of experience focused on federal consumer finance laws and regulations in the financial services industry or with a bank regulatory agency, trade association or law firm
  • Strong policy analysis and written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects
  • Ability to think strategically and work in cooperation with others to produce effective results
  • Ability to accommodate occasional travel
